SEFJ was established in 1951 by Dr. Jukichi Shimoizumi ( President of Tsuru Bunka University, Professor emeritus of Tokyo University of Education). SEFJ is a foundation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. The purpose of SEFJ is (1) to research science education program; and (2) to develop advanced science education program . Also SEFJ is enthusiastic of developing environmental education programs which is one of the most important in the science education. SEFJ provides action as shown below. 1. maintenance of the Science Education Laboratory(Environmental Education Laboratory, Tsukuba. 2. basic research for developing science and environmental education programs. 3. research on evaluation methods in achievement of science and environmental programs. 4. research on textbooks and other publication for science and environmental education programs. 5. investigation into scientific subjects of general interest to children and students. 6. investigation into social demand for science education. 7. investigation into the progression process of students by science education programs. 8. edition and publication of books, video tapes, and other material for science and environmental education. Research & Investigation SEFJ researches and investigates many issues of science and environmental education. *International environmental education *Science experiment programs for students. *Nature Experience Activities *Study of garbage control *OBIS program *Earthworm-compost study Sponsorship by SEFJ SEFJ provides teacher training seminars, lecture meetings, and symposiums of science and environmental education. *Training seminar for teachers of environmental education(Eco College). *Symposium of environmental education for teachers in kindergarten and elementary school. *science experiment program for children *symposium for early childhood education *symposium of utilization of earthworms; manuring the fields ,minimizing garbage *Tsukuba recycling fair Nature Experience programs & Field Trips SEFJ organizes Wildlife Experience Tours, Nature World School, Cross-country Skiing, and Animal Tracking programs for elementary school students. *The Wild Life Experience Tour Observation of birds, monkeys and marine life on rocky beach in Nishiomote Island. *Nature World School Making pottery, bamboo toys, tent camping; surviving in the wild at Tsukuba,Ibaragi. *Cross-country skiing and animal tracking Observation hares, foxes, and other wildlife in winter at Bandai,Fukushima. Consultation for environmental education SEFJ provides consultants for environmental education . *Sending environmental education specialist to symposium sponsored by other organizations. *Consulting and coordination of environmental education programs. Publications & Teaching materials SEFJ publishes textbooks and introduces excellent teaching materials for science and environment education, which are edited by international scientists and environment specialists. *Genetics; This biological textbook is used as a supplementary textbook by the students in more than 30 high schools in Yamanashi Pref. *Learning the circulation of natural resources from earthworms *Earthworm, the cleaner of garbage *Earthworm guide book *How to make the nature observation manual for children. Consignment project SEFJ is consigned to several kinds of projects from many organizations Ministry of Education, Life Environment Department of Ibaragi Pref. Toyota Foundation, Mainichi Newspaper ,Lifelong study Center of Ibaragi Pref. Free entrance of the meeting for the study of earthworm The history of SEFJ 1951:Established by Dr.Jukichi Shimoizumi for the purpose of researching natural science study , providing lecture meeting, and publishing textbooks for children and school students. 1985: Publishing " Genetics" The Biological Textbook for high school students 1987: Started investigation of environmental education. 1988: Environmental Education Laboratory, Tsukuba was opened. Started nature experience program and field trips such as "The Wildlife Experience Tour" and " Nature World School" . 1994:The meeting for study of environmental education in Australia started. 1995: Started "Science Experiment Programs" 1999:Teacher training seminar( Eco collage) started. |
